چکیده

Introduction: The use of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) and optical amplification as a method of increasing the information capacity and/or reach in optical fibre systems has led to significant propagation impairments owing to fibre nonlinearity [1]. Important nonlinear effects causing inter-channel crosstalk in WDM systems are four wave mixing (FWM) and cross phase modulation (XPM). FWM can be managed by increasing the system dispersion or by using unequal channel spacing [2]. Neither of these approaches, however, decreases the system impairment due to XPM [3 – 5]. We demonstrate a novel technique which can compensate for XPM by prechirping the signal channel with a filtered version of an interfering WDM channel at the transmitter.

Effect of Nonlinear Phase Variation in Optical Millimetre Wave Radio over Fibre Systems

In this paper, we propose an optical millimetre wave radio-over-fibre (mm-wave RoF) system that uses a dual drive Mach Zehnder modulator (DD-MZM), which is biased at the maximum transmission biasing point, to generate an optical double sideband-suppressed carrier. The input to the DD-MZM are binary phase shift keying (BPSK), quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK), 8-phase shift keying (8-PSK) and...

Methodology of Unequally Spaced Frequency Allocation for WDM Transmission Systems Using Typical Dispersion-Shifted Fiber Cable

The transmission performance of WDM transmission systems is influenced by many effects according to the type of optical fiber employed in the system. Japanese highspeed transmission systems use dispersion-shifted fiber (DSF). It is well known that the transmission distance of WDM systems employing DSF is restricted by fiber four-wave mixing (FWM). Unequally spaced channel allocation (USCA) was ...

Chromatic Dispersion Monitoring Method Based on Semiconductor Optical Amplifier Spectral Shift Effect in 40 Gb/s Optical Communication Systems

The optical signals degrade as travel down the optical link due to the optical fiber properties such as chromatic dispersion, polarization mode dispersion, polarization dependent loss, polarization dependent gain and various fiber nonlinear effects, which are considered as limitations in the high-speed, lang-haul fiber communication systems. Where chromatic dispersion causes different wavelengt...

Polarization Mode Dispersion compensation in WDM system using dispersion compensating fibre

In this paper, the polarization mode dispersion in eight channel WDM system is evaluated by considering one even channel and one odd channel performance parameters like BER and Q-factor. As PMD effects transmission at high bit rates so it is compensated with the help of dispersion compensating fibre at different distances by controlling the polarising angle with the help of polarization control...
